masala chai tea
A friend asked me about making Chai tea, so I wanted to post a recipe I found a while back I like.
1-1/2 cups water
1 inch stick of cinnamon
8 cardamom pods
8 whole cloves
3 whole peppercorns
2/3 cup milk
6 tsp. sugar (or to taste)
3 teaspoons any unperfumed loose black tea
Put 1-1/2 cups water in saucepan. Add the cinnamon, cardomom, peppercorns, and cloves and bring to a boil. Cover, turn heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the milk and sugar and bring to a simmer again. Throw in the tea leaves, cover, and turn off the heat. After 2 minutes, strain the tea into two cups and serve immediately. Makes 2 (small) cups. Scale it up for more.
All of these ingredients can be found at Frazier Farms, Sprouts, or any market that has open bin spices. Fraziers is where I get it mostly.
Hi this looks awesome! I found you on pinterest and I am so excited to try this recipe. Where did you find whole cardamon pods? I have looked at two whole foods grocery store and cannot find them anywhere. Any suggestions?
thanks for checking out the blog! I know that Frazier Farms and Sprouts have good open spice bins that have it. Also, any small health food store should have it. If all else fails, there is a really good website called penseys.com that sells all spices online.
