first meal

After an 18 hour flight and a 22 hour bus ride I finally arrived to meet my friend in Bariloche, Argentina. Our first stop from the bus was the local cheese shop. After another 20 min bus ride and a half hour walk on a dusty road we finally arrived at his house for the summer. After dropping my bags, we headed out to the local baker -an sweet old lady that bakes and sells her goods from her small house in the neighborhood. We buy a simple wheat and sesame loaf and a few other baked goods for the next few days. Finally, we get back to his old stick built (and i really mean stick built) house that creaked and swayed with the wind. He cooked me the first really good meal to kick off my month traveling the country. A cheese plate stacked full of Roquefort, Swiss, Salami, olives, very good olive oil from Mendoza, and a small glass of Malbec preceded the simple rice and beans made very well. We ate the bread with a cherry preserve he made a few weeks prior when the cherry trees were stacked full. I just laughed at how simple and good food can be when the ingredients are prime.
